Self-determination is losing its appeal. People now prefer a tough daddy figure.

It's not just happening in the U.S.; it's a trend that's happening everywhere.  People around the world seem to be losing interest in representative democracy, in doing the heavy lifting of making the big decisions.  Instead, more and more of us are happy to hand things over to a "big daddy," a strong authority figure, to manage everything for us, to give us everything we want, and to keep us safe and happy.  All we have to do is blissfully, lazily follow along.  Or am I misreading this?

If you were grand wizard of the galaxy, would you be okay with this?

Maybe it’s because the desire to make a difference is born out of knowledge. Those who think they understand what’s wrong are more apt to weigh in with ideas and get involved (and vote) than those who haven’t a clue. It’s the same reason small children want mommy and daddy nearby to make the decisions. Self-determination never occurs to a four year old.

Well the rejuvenation of this blog is all of two days old, so this is a big experiment. And on this post right here, I’m testing out using voice texting on my phone to see if I can post a comment that way it looks like I can sort of. It’s not very good with the punctuation though. I’ll delete this nebulous post when I get a chance. I’m just playing around with it to see what works.

Voice texting doesn’t work too bad actually. You have to insert your own punctuation. On an iPhone, you use that little microphone icon down in the bottom right corner and start talking. It also occurs to me that maybe there needs to be a thread on here that’s like a potpourri totally miscellaneous or random where people can just interject their thoughts under that thread. I’ll have to think about it.

so yeah, these last couple of comments are off topic. But that’s because there’s not a correct topic to put it under. Hey this is a work in progress, OK?

A drawback to this would be the fact that, as far as I can tell, there’s no way to get notified if somebody posts something. You would never know.

There is a newer thread than this one. Click the stewardship banner at the top of the page to go back to the most recent thread.

So, to see if you and I are on the same page, let me ask you this. Do you believe that it’s not whether you win or lose; it’s how you play the game? Or do you believe that winning is everything, no matter what it takes? Put me down as the former.

I’m a ‘values’ voter, and that means ethics and doing the right thing are always the foremost consideration and at least as important as the end result to me. The end does NOT justify the means. The means has to be ethical or it ends right there.

That’s why I’m not interested in whatever good Trump may be accomplishing if I see his methods as unethical or in conflict with my values. Sadly, it seems I’m in a minority with that thinking. Ethics and values, sadly, have fallen out of style. But not with me. I’m sticking to old school, to hell with what’s stylish.

Tons of solid gold everywhere, umbrella tables around the White House patio, a giant ballroom off the side of the White House. He’s doing his best to make the White House look like Mar-a-Lago, which was made to look like the palace of Versailles. And on top of that, he’s dying to get a Nobel peace prize. Trump is doing whatever he can do to indelibly etch his name into the history books for all time. Well, guess what. That’s the polar opposite of what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to erase his name from the history books for all time.
